About Sorters

Sorters was started several years ago by Sarah Long, who lives in Broadstone, Dorset, just outside Poole.

She leads a very busy life, coping with three children, a part-time job, running a house, walking the dog and doing all the other millions of things that people like her need to do to keep everything going.

She is not a paragon of neatness and her house is not a showpiece (how could it be with three teenagers!) but she does know how to stay in control, and rule her possessions rather than letting them rule her.

Decluttering is something that she started to do to help out a friend who was finding it hard to cope with the mess in her house.

To her surprise, Sarah realised that the little rules she tries to live by, some of which are:

  • “At least to put things in the room they should be in”
or
  • “When something new comes into the house, try to sort out something that is no longer wanted, so it can go out”

were not used or understood by other people.

She realised that she could help people to declutter their houses, wardrobes and their lives, and help them learn little strategies that would help them stay decluttered with the minimum of effort.

She could help people decide what to take when they move, and also help those who were combining two homes or coping with clearing a loved one’s possessions after bereavement.

And so Sorters was born.

She has recently added a computer section, helping people to make the best use of their computers, and also using her technical skills to make sure that the machines run as well as they can.
